In MWC Pavilion 5, a mysterious camera with six lenses is shooting a song and dance performance on stage. It is then processed by Kandao Live 8K live broadcasting software for real-time splicing and encoding, and then output to the adjacent hall (Exhibition Hall 4).

[MWC2019] LetinAR, a Korean AR startup, uses pinhole-effect optical devices to bring more FOV and depth of field to AR glasses.
LetinAR, a Korean venture that develops optical solutions for AR headwear devices and smart glasses, demonstrated its new optical technology, pin mirror, in MWC2019 this week, with clear images, deeper gaze, and larger FoV. The results are comparable to many other AR products using optical waveguides.
Letin's latest product demo is called PinMR "8K", and the images come from two 5-inch 4K LCD displays in a fixed viewing frame. LetinAR calls this "8K" demo specifically designed to demonstrate their optical capabilities. It is reported that this demo sample was developed by LetinAR and Fraunhofer FEP, a German specialist in designing miniature OLED displays.
The demo installs a miniature OLED display on the upper edge of the Pin Mirror (PinMR) lens, which is provided by Fraunhofer Research Institute and LetinAR, respectively. Pin Mirror is actually an optical device that achieves the pinhole effect. It has many tiny mirrors embedded in AR glasses (an optical glass).
On demo lenses, the images are bright and clear. More importantly, they allow users to focus on 3D images at different distances, ranging from 50 centimeters (about 20 inches) to infinite distances - without using light fields. The concept here is similar to pinhole camera cameras, which create images with near-infinite depth of field. By limiting the amount of light to smaller, more focused beams, everything is focused. Unlike HoloLens 2 or Magic Leap One, PinMR does not use waveguides, which Letin claims can reduce manufacturing complexity and production costs.
Side note: Karl Guttag, chief scientific officer and AR expert of RAVN, AR, mentioned in his previous CES 2018 demonstration that LetinAR seems to be based on research from the University of North Carolina, which makes optical devices similar to "needle light" for AR with wide field of view.
As a solution for smart glasses, LetinAR also shows some positive directions. As a complete AR headwear device, we will have to wait and see. LetinAR is reportedly in talks with manufacturers to provide samples, including a PinMR lens and a miniature display made with external partners.
